The Adoption Option

How is adoption done?
The birth mother must make an adoption plan with an adoption counselor. A couple wanting to adopt a child must apply and be accepted as prospective adoptive parents by a government approved agency. A thorough home study is done to ensure that the couple will be able to provide care and love for a child.

Am I selfish to consider adoption?
No, it means that you are concerned about being a good mother and that you realize that raising a child can be difficult. It's not selfish to choose what is best for you and your baby. Sometimes a birth parent is not ready to raise a child. You have already given LIFE to your child, the ultimate gift. It is a mature act of selfless love for your child.

Will my baby be well taken care of?
Adoption agencies have long waiting lists of couples who are unable to have children and who are ready to love and raise a child. It is estimated that there are at least 15-20 couples waiting for every healthy infant available. Many families are also waiting to adopt babies born with handicaps.

Where do I start if I want more information?

Pregnancy Care can assist you in choosing an adoption agency that is right for you.  Our trained staff can answer your questions and arrange an information meeting for you with an adoption counselor.  Meeting with an adoption counselor doesn’t obligate you to place your baby for adoption; it just allows you to make a more informed choice whether or not to parent your child.
